Harriet Higby loved to lay on her back and stare up at
the sky so blue. She dreamed of places to go and
people to meet. There were so many things to do!
Harriet was a little girl who had gigantic dreams. She
wanted to visit the carnival with all its candies and ice
creams.
She wanted to meet the king and queen sitting
upon their thrones. She wanted to go to the desert
to dig for dinosaur bones.
She wanted to be a ballerina dancing on a stage.
She wanted to be a lion tamer with five lions in a cage.
She wanted to be a famous artist and carve a
face from stone. She wanted to climb the highest
mountain and claim it as her own.
She wanted to be a monkey swinging from the bars.
She wanted to be an astronaut and fly all the
way to Mars.
She wanted to be a circus clown. That would be lots of fun!
She wanted to be the president and live in Washington.
She wanted to go to Egypt and ride a camel in
the sand. She wanted to play the tuba in a big
brass marching band.
She wanted to sail a boat across the ocean blue.
She wanted to be a great detective and uncover
every clue.
She wanted to be in a Broadway play and have the
leading role. She wanted to play soccer and kick
the winning goal.
These were some of Harriet's dreams and she wished
for them very hard. And using her imagination,
she found them in her own backyard!
