Cold lemonade on a hot day
If you are anything like me, after playing outside on a hot day, you get pretty thirsty. I usually go inside to get a cold glass of water, but on some days, I wish I had something else, something tasty, something sweet, like a cold glass of lemonade! Making lemonade is really easy. It only takes lemons, water, and sugar-and a few minutes. ]]
The ingredients are simple
10 to 12 lemons
1  cups white sugar
8 cups cold water.
First, you'll need to ask a parent to help you gather some supplies: a large pitcher, measuring cups, a cutting board, a medium-size bowl, and a big wooden spoon. Then you'll need 10 to12 lemons, 1  cups of white sugar, and 8 cups of cold water. Once you have gathered everything, you're ready to make lemonade!]]
Just follow these directions:
In a small pan, mix the sugar with one cup of water. Then ask an adult to turn on the stove and bring the pan of liquid to a boil. Stir the mixture so that all of the sugar dissolves into the water. Once it does, ask your parent or an adult take the pot off the stove, put a lid on it, and let it cool in the refrigerator.  It will cool even faster if you pour it into a new container first.]]
Squeezing the lemons
Now for the fun part! Most people cut the lemons and squeeze the lemon juice into the pitcher. Usually the lemons are hard to squeeze this way. You could do it that way too, or you could follow a super secret lemon-squeezing tip. Do you want to? Then read on.]]
The super lemon roll!
Take the lemons and roll them. Smash them into the kitchen countertop. It's really fun-smash and roll away. When you're all done, your lemons should be pretty soft. Now ask your parent or an adult to cut the lemons in half. Get the medium-size bowl and then squeeze the softened lemons, getting every drop of juice into the bowl.  ]]
Once you are done, take a fork and pick out all the seeds from the bowl and throw them away. You wouldn't want any seeds in your lemonade now, would you? Then slowly pour the bowl of lemon juice into the pitcher. ]]
Adding all the ingredients
Now you are ready to mix it all together.
First, remove the cooled sugar-and-water mixture from the fridge and pour all of it into the pitcher. Be careful not to spill any!]]
Finally, pour in the other seven cups of cold water. Stir all the contents in the pitcher with the wooden spoon. Watch how the color changes from clear to a pale lemony-yellow shade as you stir. It looks good already!]]
Chilling out the lemonade
How patient are you? I ask because the next best thing to do is to put the pitcher into the refrigerator so that it becomes frosty cold before you drink it. But if it's a hot day and you are too impatient like me, you'll want to taste your wonderful creation right away! So, grab a big glass, add some ice cubes, and pour in the lemonade. You made that! ]]
Once you've enjoyed that first glass, put the pitcher in the refrigerator to get cold. Then the next time you're extra thirsty from playing outside while it's hot, you'll have a tasty treat waiting for you, your own homemade, icy cold lemonade.]]
