I got up very early to go to scout camp.
I packed my bags the night before.
Mom and Dad drove me to the bus.]]
All my friends were going.
We said good-bye to our

On the way to camp we sang songs.

We arrived at the camp.
I shared a tent with two other campers.
There were critters from everywhere.

of plants and trees in the forest.
We learned about poison ivy.
Nobody wants to touch that.]]
We learned about snakes
and which ones are dangerous.]]
We went to the mess tent for dinner.
It didn't look messy to me.]]
After dinner we sat by the fire.
We told ghost stories
but I wasn't scared.]]
Then we went to bed. Some kids cried
for their mommies but I didn't.]]
At breakfast we could have gooey scrambled
eggs limp bacon cold toast and cereal.
I had cereal.]]
We worked at tying knots.
We looked for animal tracks
in the woods.]]
There was a rabbit and a deer.
We also saw a skunk.
Then we ran away.]]
In arts and crafts
I made a vase for Mom.
I also made a belt with some
beads on it for Dad.
I made an Indian drum
for my little sister.
But mostly I just
made a mess.]]
We had a canoe race but my team
was too heavy. Our canoe sank.]]
I went exploring by myself but the path
kind of disappeared. I got lost.]]
I was scared. Then the camp leader
found me. He wasn't happy
but I was.
I don't think I'll do that again.]]
Everyone packed their bags
and cleaned up their tents.
Later that afternoon the bus
came to take us all home.]]
It was time to go. We got on the bus.
We weren't tired at all.
I bet we could have stayed for weeks.]]
Next year when I'm older
I will stay even longer but overnight
was good enough for now.]]
